Due to a difference between the English and Scottish systems, like Finn she is one of the youngest in her year group. After Finn's shaky start, we allowed ourselves no complacency. We had her tracing letters and sounding out words at intervals throughout the summer.
It helps too that she was at the school's annexed nursery - she already knew more than half her year group when school started. Plus, being number 2, she's watched No 1 going to school for as long as she can remember.
The past cast a nervous pallor over parents' evening, and prepared us to read cynically between the lines of super positive double speak: 'imaginitive' can mean doesn't concentrate; 'popular member of class' can mean they are reluctant to work alone, and so on.
So what was said?
We have a model student.
We have a well adjusted, precocious intellectual.
We have a Lisa to go with our Bart.
