Happy Fatherhood

All work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy

If you have strong ideas, it's nice to have them confirmed by an expert, and here's one, that I agree with.

However, unlike the expert, I'm skeptical that we can release our offspring from the rack of education, and have them playing wild in the street.

In our house, what happens when they're given down time is that they want to watch a movie, or play a computer game. Saying they can do what they like means the TV or computer comes on, and then they sit in a mesmorised stupor until dinner time. Which leads to a paradox: they're not going to play freely unless they're prevented from doing what they really want to, which entails a little adult supervision.
